Issue:
How can I attach to a remote router via a dial-up connection ?
Solution:
P840 Router
P840 Management Via Modem
The P840 series bridge/routers can be remotely managed via a modem connected to the P840' console port. The following document is meant to assist in the set-up of this remote management method.
When connecting the P840 console directly to a modem, a null modem cable must be used because both the P840 console and the modem are DCE devices. A null modem cable with pinouts according to the following table must be used.
8 20 3 2 2 3 20 8 7 7 4 5 5 4 22 22
The following are the recommended settings that should be configured on the modem connected to the P840 console using the "AT" command set:
1) ATS0=n - This command instructs the modem to automatically answer on "n" number of rings.
2) ATQ1 - This command instructs the modem to not return result codes.
3) AT&D0 - This command instructs the modem to ignore changes in DTR status.
It is also recommended that the DTE speed, that is the speed of the data transfer between the DTE and the local modem, be set to 9600 baud.
