Issue:
How to configure a P840 router to call another P840 router over ISDN.
Solution:
In the following example the 'local site router' will be calling the 'remote site router' to establish a connection over ISDN. The 'remote site router' will be answering only. Using un-numbered link and CHAP security.
P840 (local site router)
configuration / Interfaces set-up / LAN set-up / IP set-up / IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [xx]
Press the TAB key twice
WAN_set-up Switch type [NI-1] Link set-up / Enter Link number 1 and press enter ISDN set-up Directory number [xxxxxxx] Spid [xxxxxxxxxxxx]
Press the TAB key
Link set-up Enter Link number 2 and press enter ISDN set-up Directory number [xxxxxxx] Spid [xxxxxxxxxxxx]
Press the = key
Configuration / Connections set-up / Security set-up menu / Security level [Chap]
Press the TAB key
Remote site set-up menu / Edit Remote site For the Remote site alias, enter a name to represent the Remote site. For this example, we can use the name 'remotesite'. Enter 41 for the Template id. This is the default ISDN template id
Connection [dual_link] Primary connection [ISDN_call] Secondary connection [ISDN_call]
Connection set-up menu / ISDN call set-up ISDN number [xxxxxxxxxx] the primary number to call Alternate ISDN number [xxxxxxxxxx]
Press the TAB key 2 times
Security Parameters Outgoing User name [localsite] this user name must match the 'Remote site alias' of the remote router. Outgoing Chap secret [hello] this password must match the 'Incoming CHAP secret' on the remote router.
Press the TAB key
Protocol set-up Multilink protocol [enabled] BACP set-up BACP [Disabled] (must be disabled for dual-link operation)
Press the TAB key 2 times
Activation set-up / Usage set-up Usage limit [unlimted] Call limit [unlimited]
Press the TAB key 2 times
Connection set-up / Auto-call [enabled]
Press the = key to return to the main menu
Save configuration
Diagnostics / Soft reset - enter yes to reset.

Remote site set-up menu / Edit Remote site For the remote site alias, enter the name 'localsite'. Note: This name must match the 'Outgoing User name' configured in the Local site router and will be used to athenticate the incoming CHAP user name. For the Template id, enter 41. This is the default ISDN template id.
