Creating new controller software disk(s)

Issue:
How to create a new Software or Setup disk for the 594, 494, or 394 controller. Disks can be created to replace existing corrupted disks or to upgrade the firmware in the controller.

Solution:

Create a new folder on your hard drive for the utility.
Example c:\perleupdate
Download the Base Controller Update Kit from the Perle website appropriate for the type of controller (see bottom for link to Service Sales).
Note: for the 394 controller just select the language type from the downloads section.
Save the file to the folder that was created on your local hard drive.

Note: 394 and m3i software utilities on Windows NT based operating systems (Windows NT, 2000, or XP) will not permit direct write by the Utility and will fail. This can be avoided by using a Windows 9x or DOS based operating system to run the utility.
If your Windows NT/2000/XP harddrive is formated in FAT or FAT32 format then you can boot the workstation with a Windows 9x, XP(MSDOS), or DOS boot disk and be able to access the files stored there.

Navigate to the folder where you saved the file, using Windows Explorer and run the downloaded file [double click]. It will be an ".exe" file. Example 594.exe
A command window will open and prompt to extract the files, type "y" to extract.
Once the extraction is completed you can close the command window (the top of the window will state Finished).

The extraction will add new files to the folder.
To start the Update utility, run the appropriate batch (.bat) file that was extracted:
example, 594 controller = u594.bat
If you are unsure, view the Readme.txt file for more details.

The 594 or 494 utility will prompt for the type of disk to create (Software, Setup, or both), the 394 utility will only create a Software disk.
Continue to follow the screen instructions.

594 or 494 Controller:
Once the disk(s) are created, power down the controller and place the new Software disk in the drive.
Bootup the controller.
The controller will boot using the firmware on this new Software disk.
As there is no configuration file on the new Software disk, the controller will automatically write the configuration that is stored in CMOS to the new Software disk.

394 Controller:
Once the disk is created, power down the controller and place the new Software disk in the drive.
Bootup the controller.
The controller will boot using the firmware on this new Software disk.
As there is no configuration on the new Software disk, proceed with the controller configuration.
