Issue:
PC's fail to connect when the 833 is configured for NT Domain security.
The Event Log does not show any Logon record.
Cause:
- The Domain is a Windows 2000 / 2003 Active Directory domain and there are no Windows NT domain servers.
- The Domain is a Mixed Windows NT and Windows 2000/2003 domain controller environment.
- The Windows NT Domain servers are not on the same LAN segment as the Perle.
Solution:
1. Windows 2000 / 2003 domains utilize the Active Directory and it is not compatible with the NT Domain security funtion of the 833 servers. It is recommended to use Windows Internet Authentication Services and configure the 833 for RADIUS security [see document link below].
2. Most often the Windows 2000/2003 domain controllers will respond to the authentication request which will not be understood by the Perle. Configure the NT Domain Security option in the Perle to point to a specific Windows NT Domain Controller.
3. The 833 utilizes a broadcast to communicate to the NT Domain servers. To poll a Domain server directly the NT Domain security must be configured with the IP address of a Domain Server.
