Issue:
Controller will not go active on the host the front panel cycles through a series of numbers H1 and H0
Solution:
Knowing what the status codes mean on the 394 controller can often help resolve a problem before Perle Technical Assistance needs to get involved.
Normal status codes on the front panel LED are an H1 alternating with a2-digit number ending in -8 (e.g., 18, 28, 38, etc.).
Status codes indicating a problem are either a solid H0 or an HO alternating with a 2-digit number ending in -1 (e.g., 11, 21, 31, etc.). The first digit representing the card slot number ie 11 = card slot 1
Status Code HO
Status Code HO indicates either the controller software has not been configured or the controller doesn't recognize any of the feature cards. Attempt to configure the controller.
Status Code HO alternating with X1, such as H011
Status Code HO alternating with X1 indicates the controller is not seeing data from the host.
-
Verify that the controller(s) and devices are vary on pending.
-
Record the lights on the modem, whether they are on, off, or flickering:
- If the TD or RTS light flickers, the Perle 394 is responding to the poll from the AS/400 and the AS/400 does not see the response. This is most likely a line problem, but it could also be related to a CSU/modem problem or a problem with the resource(port) on the host.
- If the TD or RTS light doesn't flicker, verify the phone line (contact your CSU/modem vendor to run an end-to-end test).
Status Codes H1 alternating with X2 or H0 alternating with X2
Status Codes H1 alternating with X2 or H0 alternating with X2 indicate that the controller has received a disconnect from the host.
- Verify the line is active.
- Verify the status of the controller:
- RCYPND - Error recovery is pending. Verify there are no outstanding messages in QSYSOPR that need a response. If so, the operator can reply G(GO) or R(Retry) or C(to cancel, recovery).
- RCYCNL - Error recovery has been canceled, vary off and back on controller. If a controller cannot be varied off, verify there are no active jobs or printer writers active on the devices associated with the controller.
- Varied Off - The host is not trying to communicate to the controller; vary on the controller.
Status Code H1 alternating with X6
Status Code H1 alternating with X6 indicates that the host is sending a test message to the controller in an attempt to recover from communication errors. The TD and RD lights on the remote CSU/modem will be flickering and this is usually related to a line problem
