How to install the Affinity pci express card on windows 2000 or XP.
The PCI card is not being allocated resources because the memory location on the card is incorrect.
The PCI express card can be configured to operate in both high and low memory,to set the card to work in high memory, located on the outer edge of the PCI Express card is a jumper, the location is JP1.
If this card was moved from a computer running windows 95 or windows 98 most likely the card was strapped to operate in low memory, to correct the problem if the card fails on a windows 2000 computer.
1) remove the express card.
2) locate JP1 and move the jumper to the lower pin position.
3) re-install card.
4) when the computer boots it may report new hardware detected, follow instructions and load the drivers from disk number 1 (this can be Stepsaver V4.12 or Visilink V5.12.)
The mininum version is V5.10 ,with the updated file Twinax.sys ,which can be downloaded from the Perle web site.
download this file and save to disk 1 of the installation software diskette.
Once the software is installed, you can check the resources that was assigned to the Express card,to do this.
1 Start Programs
2 Control Panel
5 Device Manager
6 Affinity Systems 5250 Adapters
7 with the mouse point click the + (this will display the card type as PCI Express)
8 Double click on the card ,and select the resources tab.
in the resource type and setting window, check the memory range the settings should read (41080000 - 4108007F)(the is only an example the range allocated to the card is based on how much hardware is installed on the computer)
those numbers indicate the card is installed and running in high memory.
If the card does have the correct resources
close window and start Visilink.
Visilink should open and allow the configuration of the display emulation and workstation address.
