Issue:
Can the 594 or 494 controller support a T1 line.
Solution:
The 494 and 594 controllers have a universal serial interface.
The interface is a special high density 44 pin D type connector(which has 3 rows of pins).
The interface can support speeds to a Maximum of 128 Kbps.
The following are the supported speeds
Line Speed 1200
2400
3600 This group standard RS232 type interface.
4800
7200
9600
14.4K
19.2K
38.4K
48 K
56 K This group V.35 or X.21 type interface.
64 K
128 K
Selecting the speed on the controller is only required for direct connect installations, a special direct connect cable should be located to complete the installation.
When controllers are connect to modems or CSU/DSU's the clock rate is provided the DCE device which is the modem / CSU/DSU although the clock rate is provided by an exernal source the maximum supported speed the controller will accept is 128k.
When selecting speeds the appropriate communication cable should also be used.
For speeds of up to 19.2K the EIA 232 cabled is selected.
For speeds from 38.4k to 128k the Winchester cable is required.
Note:
Some CSU/DSU units are equip with 25 pin D type connectors configured for V.35 support, the controller will not support V.35 "D type connector" if the CSU/DSU doesn't have the Winchester connector the adaptor from the D to Winchester has to be installed on the CSU/DSU before connecting to the Perle V.35 cable.
The same rules apply if the controllers is to be connected to a routers serial interface.
