Issue:
How do I connect to the Model 3i to configure it ?
Solution: You can use the Hyperterminal program on your PC to configure the Model 3i (M3i). Press the The main menu will appear and from here you will go into the Port Definition and Workstation Definition to configure each serial port of the M3i. Refer to the Model 3i configuration example in the Perle knowledgebase. Power off the M3i, set the switch back to normal mode, connect all your devices. If you are connecting modems to the serial port of the M3i then set the DTE/DCE switch to the DTE position. For direct connected PCs or Terminals set the switch to the DCE position.
Power off the M3i before you start.
Use a straight through cable to connect the COM port of your PC to the serial port of the M3i.
On each serial port of the M3i is a DTE/DCE switch. Set this switch to the DCE position to allow you to connect your PC directly to this serial port. Before you change the switch position be sure to power off the Model 3i.
On the rear of the M3i is a Normal/Config switch. Set this switch to the C position.
Power on the M3i. Allow a minute for the M3i to come ready.
Start the Hyperterminal program on your PC. Typical settings are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop, VT100 emulation mode.
Once you have completed the configuration, make sure you select the save configuration option from the main menu.
Lastly, power on the M3i.
