Issue:

What TCP or UDP ports are needed to be opened to allow communication for configuration or management using the IOLAN Device Manager.

Solution:

Perle IOLAN Device Manager application requires these

Allow: Local TCP * ----> Remote TCP 33812

Allow: Local UDP * ----> Remote UDP 33812

Allow: Local UDP 33813 <---- Remote UDP *

Perle TFTP Service (included with the Device Manager)

Allow: Local UDP 33814 <---- Remote UDP *

Note: the TFTP port can be user configured through the Device Manager. The configured port number is automatically passed from the Device Manager to the Device Server.

The IOLAN Device Manager uses broadcast and multicast mac level messages to discover the IOLAN on the network. The Device Manager sends a broadcast that will be received by every device on the network. The scope of the broadcast is limited to a broadcast domain. Therefore, if you are trying to connect to the IP address of an IOLAN on a remote network then the following changes are required:

1. Add the IP address of the IOLAN into the Device Manager so that it becomes a manual discovery.

2. Add the following inbound and outbound ports to the firewall rules, or allow access to the Device Manager if a security alert window appears.

outbound TCP 33812

outbound UDP 33812

3. Ensure the Router is enabled to forward multicasts.

Note: It is advisable in some cases to use WEB Manager if the IOLAN is already configured with an IP address and is either on the local or remote network. Any HTTP WEB browser using TCP port 80.
