Issue:
How do I configure a PPP dial-in connection on the IOLAN+ server.
Solution:
The IOLAN+ can support remote users dialing in using D.U.N. or other dial-up client that utilizes PPP protocol. The Iolan+ can use multiple authentication methods (though not as extensive as the Perle 833 Remote Access products).
Log into the unit.
Select 1 of the "free" conections.
Select Administration.
Select password then enter the units password
Select port enter the port number.

Authentication methods
With Authentication = local the PPP client can use any UserID and the password will be set to the Iolan+'s Login password. The Login password is blank by default.
Main Menu -> Change -> Login Password
With Authentication = host you must configure a network server that can process the authentication request.
This requires that the authentication host configuration be completed by selecting ACCESS from the Configuration Main menu.
From the Access menu select Host Athentication and Logging.
In the next screen define the following
fields.
auth host [host ip address]
auth port [23]
log user name [ host user]
log file [name of a file]
The "auth port" above is using the Telnet Daemon running on a Unix host. If you are using an FTP Daemon then use "auth port" 21.
Then select the events that you wish to monitor. Leave all other fields at the default values.
Ensure that the log user that you define is a legitimate user on the authentication host.
