How to transfer a configuration file to a controller

Issue:

How can a configuration file be saved to a Perle 494 or 594 controller.

Note: this article does not apply to the 594M. See your 594M User Guide for details on interactive mode.

Cause:
Controller was moved or the as/400 information was changed or the controller had to be replaced.

Solution:

Once the configuration has been completed, save the configuration data from within the PC utility program ,to a diskette.

The configuration file name is 494conf.dat for the 494 controller or 594conf.dat for the 594 controller.

The save configuration will show one of the following C:\494UP\494conf.dat for the 494

C:\594up\594conf.dat for all 594

It is recommended that the config file be saved to diskette from within the config screen, as a Normal Configuration.

Note :This file will not automatically be updated to the controller's CMOS.

If the controller has an existing configuration, or if this is a new installation ,to load a new configuration to CMOS,

Follow procedure below (you will also find these instructions in your User Guide - Chapter 6: Transfering Configuration Data).

To save a normal configuration file from any diskette to the Perle 494 or 594 non-volatile memory:

1) Ensure the power is turned off to the Perle 494 or 594 Controller ( no operator panel LEDs are on).

2) Ensure the diskette drive is empty.

3) Press the power switch. ALL LEDs should come on momentarily, the message will then read

001-01

Then the message code will change to:

003-02 1

4) Insert the 494 or 594 Controller Setup Diskette into the disk drive .

5) On the front panel keypad type 2 and press Enter. (Enter is found in the lower right corner of keypad)

003- 02 2

After approx 2 minutes the Test Mode (Amber) and Ready (Green) LEDs come on. (Top and Bottom Led's.

6) On the keypad press the REQ. or (I) ,(found in the upper right corner of keypad) then type 300, and press Enter. The LCD displays:

301| | ***********

7) Replace the Controller Setup diskette with the diskette containing the configuration file copied from the PC utility.

Press Enter, the LED will change to:

**********301**********

When the configuration data has been successfully transferred to the controller the LCD will display

303 || ************

8) Remove diskette from the controller ,Power off the controller ,insert the Controller Software Diskette , power the controller on.

(the controller will automatically backup the configuration file to the controller software diskette)

Note:

The diskette required to boot the controller can be one of three.

1) Base Controller Software (used with basic configurations ,i.e. ,Sdlc, Frame Relay , Tcp/ip over Ethernet or Token-Ring. (494E/T/A/594E/T)

2) IP Routing Controller Software (used with IP over Frame connections, including IP routing.(594E /T)

3) Network Controller Software (used when the controller has a hard drive installed) (594E only)
