Terminal dial in access through the serial ports

Issue:
This configuration goes over setting up the CS9000 for dial in access via Terminal application to be able to access serial devices on ports configured for Reverse Telnet.

Solution:

Add a modem.
Change modem to add in the initialization string (this can be obtained from the modem manufacturer).
In this example we are using a US Robotics 33.6 modem with dip switches 3+8 down.

           lqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq+modems+qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqk
x modem name           initialisation string            x
           x usr                  [AT&F1&C1&D2S0=1&W             ] x
           mqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqj

Configure the Line.
Service is set to cslogin and dial is set to in.
Configure the hardware parameters to match the connection. Select the appropriate modem and terminal emulation type.

       lqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq+line 1+qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqk
       x        service[cslogin]         line name[                   ] x
       x                                                                x
       x          speed[115200]           terminal[vt100 ]              x
       x           flow[hard]                                           x
       x           bits[8]                    user[                ]    x
       x         parity[none]             hostname[              ]      x
       x           stop[1]               host port[23   ]               x
       x                                   CS port[10001]               x
       x                                                                x
       x           dial[in   ]          modem name[usr                ] x
       x   phone number[                                ]               x
       x                                                                x
       x     idle timer[          ]  session timer[          ]          x

Attach the modem using the appropriate cable built from the pinouts described in the manual.
Then save and exit.
Kill the line to reset the Line attributes.
Remember to save the configuration to Flash.

Dial in with any Terminal application. The Terminal session will recieve the CS9000 login prompt. At the command prompt Telnet to another port that has been configured for Reverse Telnet.

 ex. CS_9000# telnet cs9000 10002

Note: if you add the CS9000 into the host table then it will eliminate typing of the IP address when issuing the Telnet command.

With the new feature of the Easy Port Access you can configure a second method for dial in users to be able to take advantage of this function.

Configure the port for a PPP dial-in instead of the above terminal dial-in method. The dial-in would connect using a PPP session (such as Dialup Networking) and then they will be able to use a Telnet client to connect to the CS9000. If the userID is configured for 'menu' then they will be presented with the Easy Port Access screen to connect to the configured CS9000 port (see link for details).
