How do I change the COM port from 5 to the next available?

Issue:
How do I change, under Microsoft Windows 95, the COM port from 5 to the next available, which, on my machine is COM3?

Solution:

This is possible, but is quite complex, so the following steps show the actions required, please note that this is an unsupported facility, Perle will not take any responsibility if this does not work :

1. Install the card as normal, this is done so that the AT-FAST driver and required files are copied to your machine
2. At your desktop click on start, settings and control panel
3. Click on system and then the Device Manager tab
4. Select Multi-function adapters and select the AT-FAST card and then the remove button
5. Exit System properties and select No do not restart your machine
6. Still in control panel select Add New Hardware
7. Click on Next> and then select No, do not detect my hardware, Click on Next>
8. In the hardware types select Ports (COM & LPT) and select Next>
9. The default settings of Manufacturer (standard port types) and models communication port should be selected, click on Next>
10. Click Next> (the resources are changed later)
11. Click on Finish
12. Click on No, do not shutdown and restart computer
13. Select Add new hardware again and follow steps 6 to 12 for the amount of ports you require i.e. 4 times for an AT-FAST4 card
14. Once all ports have been created whist still in control panel select System again and Device Manager tab
15. Select Ports, by double clicking, this will show all COM and LPT ports
16. The first port of the AT-FAST, in this case COM3, select it and clink on properties
17. Select the resources tab
18. Where ‘Settings based on: Basic configuration n’ appears, select the pull down menu and change this to Basic configuration

This allows the change to IO Range and IRQ
