Installing And configuring the M3PC

Issue:
What has to be done to install and configure an M3Pc.

Solution:

Only need to select the I/O port address on the card. Install the M3PC s/w and run M3PCdiag to determine whether there are any conflicts with other hardware on the PC.

Each additional M3PC card must have a unique server name and I/O address.

Configure WORKSTATIONS, USE PROFILE(s), then PORTS. Save Card, then start M3PC card.

If M3PC card was previously started before configuration changes, then Activate Config. Always activate config after any configuration changes, otherwise, the M3PC card will use the previous config.

The M3PC card supports up to 4 EIA-232 ports - locally or remotely attached displays including passthrough printers. A null-modem cable is required if attaching displays directly to the port of the M3PC EIA-232 cable.

If you have configured more than one user profile, and are using ‘ANY’ in PORTS, ensure that the name of the user profile is in upper case, otherwise, you connection will fail.

When configuring the User Profile options, it is recommended to specify "ANY" for the following options:

Connecting Device [ANY]

Device Emulation [ANY]

Workstation Address [ANY]

This is especially necessary when using PerleTalk for Windows, otherwise, the connection will drop before the display session appears.

If configuring a passthrough printer, ensure that it’s address is included in the ‘Workstation addresses" field in the group profile, otherwise, your ascii connection will fail. The other alternative to configuring specific workstation addresses is to use the ’ANY’ option.

Ensure that the device type to be used to connect to the M3PC is in the Active device list of the M3PC User Profile configuration, otherwise, the device will_not be recognized.
