Issue:
Microsoft Windows Networking can influence the operation of your ISDN connection when spoofing between 2 remote locations or accessing the internet. The major issue that influences the operation will be use of the ISP's DNS. Windows networking may use the DNS to perform local Name resolution even when it is not necessary. WINS may use the DNS just for this purpose, and therefore can cause activation of the ISDN link to the Internet even when there doesn't appear to be a reason. To prevent this, this traffic may be filtered by configuring a pattern filter in the PSeries router.
Solution:
From the main menu, select the following menu options:
Configuration / Packet Service set-up / Filter set-up / IP Router pattern filters / Add Pattern
You will be prompted to enter global, lan, Remote site id or alias. Type the name or the ID that you configured in this router for the Remote Site alias or id, and press enter.
You will then be prompted for 'pattern filter'. Type 'msbrowse' and press enter.
You will then be prompted for 'pattern ID number (from 1 to 64)'. Type '1' and press enter.
The filter, now activated, will prevent unnecessary activation of the Internet connection when WINS is enabled on each workstation.
