Collecting a TCP/IP Communications Trace from SST

How do I collect communication information on a Perle controller using the AS/400

Document Description:

Note: You must know the name of the line description before starting SST.

Starting from an OS/400 command line:

1 On the OS/400 command line, type the following:

STRSST

Press the Enter key.

o Select Option 1 (Start a service tool), and press the Enter key.

o Select Option 3 (Work with communications trace), and press the Enter key.

o If the name of the line description you are working with does not appear under configuration object, press F6; otherwise, stop and delete the current trace. Then, press F6

o Type the line description for the Configuration Object.

o Type the descriptive name for Trace Description.

o Change the Buffer Size to the highest number listed,a size od 6 is ok
    Number of bytes to trace.
    Beinning bytes   .   .   .  .  .  .  .  .:    *MAX               Value,  *CALC, *MAX
    Ending bytes   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   :     *CALC             Value,   *CALC
o Press the Enter key.

o (Trace should now be active.) Attempt a connection, and wait for the problem to occur.

o Once the problem has occurred, select Option 2 to stop trace, and press the Enter key.

o Select Option 6 next to the trace, and press the Enter key.

o Leave Controller as *ALL

o Change Data representation to 2 (EBCDIC). If you are working with ASCII data (for example, LPR), choose 1

o Change Format Broadcast data to N

o Change Format TCP/IP data only to Y, and press the Enter key.

o On one of the lines asking for a TCP/IP address, type the IP address of the remote host Controller card IP address and the AS/400 interface, and press the Enter key.

o There should now be a spooled file called QPCSMPRT in your output queue. This is the formatted TCP/IP trace.
