Brief information on V.92

Issue:

Major highlights of the new V.92 modem protocol.

There are other features that are not noted in this document.

Solution:

PCM upstream:
This will allow upstream data rates up to a maximum of 48kbps as compared to 33.6kbps with V.90.
Note: This does not affect the downsteam data rate.

V.44 compression protocol:
Increases compression rates up to 6:1 as compared to 4:1 for V.42.
Note: not all V.92 modems are required to support V.44

Modem On Hold (MOH)
Allows a dial-in client to suspend a modem session to answer another call or place an outgoing call while engaged in a modem session.

Quick Connect
Decreases the modem to modem negotiation by about 30% thus reducing the startup time for the connection.

More details can be found on the internet discussing this protocol.
