PerleTALK Windows and Perle 394e ASCII configuration

Issue:
How to configure PerleTALK Windows and Perle 394e.

Solution:

Note: For illustration purposes is a configuration example using Port 0 on the Perle 394e ASCII card. Also using workstation address 0.

Configure Port 0 definition in the Perle 394e ASCII port 0 as shown below. Most importantly make sure that both of the "Changeable" options are set for "YES".

Device Type: PTALKWIN

Changeable: *YES

Workstation Address: 0

Changeable: *YES

Session Type: Display

Baudrate: leave this field blank

Bits per character: 8

Parity: None

Stop bits: 1

Handshake method: RTS

Device Ready Method: DCDDSR

Configure the Workstation 0 definition

Select workstation address 0 in the Perle 394e ASCII configuration and change the Device emulation for 3180.  Leave all else at default settings.

Configuration for Port 0 is complete.

Next Configure PerleTalk for Windows.

Select the following menu options and selections:

Configure / ASCII Connection --> 394e / Click OK

Configure  / Session / Add / Device Type: Display / Session Name: Session A / Address: 0 / Click OK

Configure / Host Connection / Add / enter the "Host Name" ie, Perle 394e / enter the "Phone Number" to dial  /

Click OK / Click the button "Set as Default Host" / Select "Connect to Default Host" / Click OK.

Configure / Communication settings / Port: specify the COM port that your PC modem is attached to / 

Baud Rate: specify the connection speed  / Handshake: Hardware / Click OK.

Configure / Modem Settings --> specify your modem type / Dialing option: specify Tone or Pulse / 

change the "Wait for connection" to 120 seconds / Click OK.

Configure / Mapping --> 5250

To connect to the Perle 394e, select "Session" on the menu bar, then select "Activate" --> Session A.
