Port enable error 255

Issue:
When starting the Serial Port Enable utility on SCO OpenServer 5 for the SX card an error is generated [Port Enable Error 255] and the utility fails to start.

Cause:

There are 2 main reasons for this either the TA/MTA/SXDC concentrators have not been detected or the SCO configuration files have been corrupted.

Solution:

1. Check that the TA/MTA/SXDC concentrators and cards are loaded/detected on bootup.  This information is listed in the hardware table on bootup or from the end the console message file /usr/adm/messages.  The ports must be detected to be configured.

Note: The concentrator must be attached to the host card upon system startup.

If the modules are not detected run the DOS diagnostic and check the card and TA/MTA/SXDC modules are detected correctly.  If the modules are not detected by the diagnostic utility then there is a hardware fault.

2. Check that /etc/inittab and /etc/ttytype are linked files.  When you do an ls -ls listing of the files you should get something like this:

 lrwxrwxrwx 1  root  39  Mar 24 13:39  ttytype -> /var/opt/K/SCO/Unix/5.04Eb/etc/ttytype

If either of the files is not linked then the following actions need to take:
 a. Remove the SX driver.
 b. Run "Software verify" on the operating system from custom.
 c. Reboot the system.
 d. Install V1.2.5 ( or above ) of the driver.
