Ordering information for ISDN BRI U

Issue:

When ordering a BRI from your telephone company, they may require certain information as to the capabilities of your circuit, and there is information required to configure the 833IS that only the telephone company can provide.

This document will list the information, however, some information may not be necessary depending on your telephone company.

Solution:

BRI U information for an 833IS with 56K V.90 modems:

2 B - channels
1 D - channels
Data and Voice capabilities
2 SPID numbers (1 for each B-Channel)
2 Directory Numbers (DN)
Q.921/Q.931 protocols on the D channel (this information may or may not be needed by the phone company)

This is also refered to as Compatibility Package S.

The SPID numbers and the DNs are required configuration parameters on the 833IS provided by your telephone company. Typically there will be 2 SPIDs and 2 DNs, however, sometimes only 1 DN will be provided and it will be okay to configure the 833IS with 1 DN.

ISDN network protocols supported:

  • US NI-1
  • AT&T 5ESS
  • NT DMS100
  • Japan INSnet64 BRI
  • EuroISDN ETSI Net3

For an 833IS that has ISDN support only (example BRIUE) then Voice capabilities are not required to be ordered.

Note: if you have an 833IS that does not have the 56K V.90 modem support then Voice/Analog calls cannot be made inbound or outbound even if the ISDN line supports Voice.
