Issue:
The 494 or 594 controller does not complete it's bootup sequence and the LCD displays the message 003-02.
Cause:
The 003-02 message indicates that there is a disk read problem.
- No Controller Software disk in in the floppy drive
- The Controller Software disk is not readable
- The Floppy Drive has failed
Solution:
1. Make sure that the Controller Software disk is in the Floppy Drive when the unit boots up.
2. Place the Setup disk in the floppy drive and press 0 and Enter on the keypad. This will boot the unit into diagnostic mode 020-01. If it can boot to diagnostic mode then this verifies that the Software disk is corrupt.
Reboot the Perle with a backup copy of the Controller Software disk. If a backup copy does not exist then create a new disk from the Base Controller Update Kit (see below for more links).
3. If a new Controller Software disk does not change the problem then the Floppy Drive is having problems reading the disk.
Clean out the Floppy Drive with compressed air or a vacuum.
In some cases the read/write head gets stuck. In order to release it, lightly strike the unit above the Floppy Drive area while the unit is powered on.
If cleaning the Floppy Drive and using a new Controller Software does not resolve the problem then the Floppy Drive will have to be repaired/replaced.
