Error 431200 and 438912

Issue:

Controller will not vary on the remote controller remains vary on pending

Error 431200 and 438912

Cause:
If the 494 or 594 Remote controller goes down for an extended duration, and the AS/ 400 controller descriptions are not varied off, when the connection is restored the AS/400 will not vary the devices and remote controller (5494) to an active status.

Solution:

1) Check the AS/400 messages in Qsysopr, the following message will appear.

"System detected an internal error on controller XXXXXX (controller name)"

2) Check the LCD display of the 594 controller , the following messages appear

The upper row of the LCD will display the Controller name. eg " C594E01"

The lower row of LCD will cycle two different numbers.
450 || 00 431200
450 || 00 438912

431200 =>Error detected in the Lu 6.2 Session. the controller received a message indicating the sessions terminated.

and 438912 => The AS/400 did not accept the controller connection request because the AS/400 has an internal error.

To resolve the failure, the as/400 remote(5494) controller descriptions have to be deleted and restored.

How and What to delete to restore

The AS/400 can auto configure the appc device, remote controller ,and attached devices.

Vary off a) Remote controller(5494)
b) Vary off the Appc device

Delete the above items.
(in some cases vary off/delete of the APPC device is not required)

There are two methods for restoring.

1) Allowing the AS/400 to autoconfig.
2)Create the remote controller manually .

Method 1

Ensure sysval Qautormt =1 on wrksysval Qautormt ,change the system value
The AS/400 will autoconfig and restore the entire configuration.

Method 2

* If the attached devices (work stations) were auto-configured and renamed ,and you do not want the AS/400 to auto-configure.
Before deleting any descriptions check system value (Qautormt) 0= disables auto configuration

Command (wrksysval Qautormt)To find the remote controller .

type wrkcfgsts *ctl xxxxx* (remote controller name 5494) (this will display the remote controller)

1) vary off the Remote Controller (5494)

next type wrkcfgsts *dev xxxxxxx (device name)

2) vary off the Appc Device

3) delete the appc device

4) delete the remote controller (5494)

If the controller was manually created or renamed.

1) Record the names of all attached devices.

2) vary off and delete controller

To restore the AS/400.

1) Create the remote(5494) controller ,and attach the devices,.

when all device names are restored the remote controller will be created.

Note: To try and prevent or reduce the number of internal error occurrences, IBM may advise to change the "Device Wait Timer" parameter from 120 to 60 seconds. The "Device Wait Timer" is an additional parameter found in the RWS Controller description.

Power on the controller. Ensure that your devices are powered up.

Vary on the 5494 remote controller

The AS/400 will auto config the Appc Device and restore the connection.
