How do I resolve a Memory conflict in my Windows 95 PC for the Affinity card?
Solution:

Memory Errors when running Diagnostics
Problem Description: Memory Errors when running Diagnostics
1. To Run Diagnostics.
From the W95 desktop,
Click Start
Programs
Affinity 5250 Cards
5250 Diagnostics.
At the Enabler screen,
Note the resources the card is taking
: Interrupt Level
Physical and V86 memory
Base Port Address
Make sure the vxd is loaded and the card is successfully enabled.
Click Continue
Start.
All tests should pass.
If you get a memory error, use the following instructions to
attempt to resolve the conflict.
2. Make sure there is no "EMM386" line in the CONFIG.SYS.
From the W95 desktop,
Click Start
Run
Key-In:SYSEDIT
Press the
Click C:\CONFIG.SYS
Look for the following line
: DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
If you have any line with the EMM386.EXE in it (with whatever
variations), rem it out.
To do this,
Key-In: REM
It should look like this
: REM
Click the
When the question comes up to Save the File,
Click Yes
Reboot the Computer.
3. Retry Diagnostics. (See Step #1 above.) If you still get a memory
error, continue with Step #4.
4. Change the memory address of the Affinity adapter in W95.
From the W95 desktop,
Right-click My Computer
Left-click Properties
Click Device Manager
Double-click Affinity Systems from Perle 5250 Emulation Cards
Double-click Affinity Systems from Perle 5250 Plug 'N Play Card, Micro-Plus Card
or PC Card
Click Resources
Uncheck the box: Use Automatic Settings
Highlight Memory Range
Click Change Setting
This will take you to another screen.
Use the up and down arrow to move to an alternate memory address.
(Ex: C000, CC00, D000, DC00)
Under Conflict Information, make sure it says
"No devices are conflicting"
Click Okay
Okay
Yes
NOTE: If you are unable to change the resource, click on the down
arrow next to "Setting Based On Basic Configuration..."
Select an alternate Basic Configuration XXXX
Try to change the resource again.
If you are still unable to change the resource, go
through each basic configuration until you find one
which will allow you to change the resource.
4. From the W95 desktop,
Click Start
Shut Down
Restart the Computer
Yes
5. Retry Diagnostics. (See Step #1 above.)
If you continue to get Memory error messages, try another memory
address.
If you still are unable to get past the memory error, you may
want to check in your bios for Video Shadow ROM being Enabled.
In some cases, disabling Video Shadow ROM will solve the problem.
Another possibility is that the adapter is failing.
If you have another Affinity adapter at your location, try
switching the adapter.
If, with the new adapter, you are able to pass diagnostics, then
you will need an RMA for the initial adapter.
