Issue:
How do I resolve an Interrupt Request (IRQ) conflict in my Windows 95 PC for the Affinity card?
Solution:
Summary MicroPLUS, PNP, or PC Card (PCMCIA)in W95 O/S
IRQ (Interrupt Request) Errors when running Diagnostics
Problem Description: IRQ Errors when running Diagnostics or Yellow
Exclamation or Red X Mark on the Affinity Adapter
in the Device Manager of W95.
1. To Run Diagnostics.
From the W95 desktop,
Click Start
Programs
Affinity 5250 Cards

At the Enabler screen,
Note the resources the card is taking
: Interrupt Level
Physical and V86 memory,
Base Port Address=Input/Output
Make sure the vxd is loaded and the card is successfully enabled
Click Continue
Start.
All tests should pass.
If you get an IRQ error, use the following instructions to
attempt to resolve the conflict.
2. Check for IRQ Availability.
From the W95 desktop,
Right click My Computer
Left click Properties
Click Device Manager
Highlight Computer
Click Properties button on the bottom left corner
of the screen
On the next screen you will see a list of IRQ'S currently in
use by your computer.
Check to see if our adapter is listed and if so, at what IRQ.
You must have an IRQ available for the installation of our adapter.
IRQ numbers are from 00 to 15.
If an IRQ is open and/or available you will NOT see the number
listed.
If there is a device beside each number 00 to 15 and our adapter
is not listed, you do not have an available IRQ.
In order to be able to get a 5250 connection with this computer,
you can either remove or disable another device within the computer
(such as an unused com port) or you have the option of purchasing
a PCI 5250 card which allows IRQ sharing. Please contact your place
of purchase for information on the PCI bus 5250 card.
If you choose to remove and/or disable a device in your computer,
and do not know how to proceed, please call your Computer manufacturer
for information.
If our card is listed on this screen and there is another IRQ
showing as available, move our card to the alternate IRQ to
attempt to remove the conflict.
Please remember
: PNP and PC Card adapters can use IRQ's 3 thru 15.
MicroPLUS adapter can use IRQ's 2 thru 7.
