Issue:
How to configure the 494E for TCP/IP.
Solution:
The 494E can be configured either by using the dos utility or a display station attached to the controller, the Dos Utility has to be used for any Tcp/ip configuration ,and if there is more than two feature cards installed in the controller regardless of the method of communication.
To create a TCP/IP configuration with the Dos Utility,
1) Locate a copy of the Dos Utility
2) To install software.
1) Switch to a dos prompt.
2) Insert the utility disk in floppy drive
3) At C:\ prompt change the drive letter to the floppy drive.
For example if your main drive letter is C: and the floppy drive A:
from the C: prompt change to A:
3) The syntax for installing the software installation is
A: install C 0
A= drive A
C= drive C
Type of installation
0 = Standalone
There are additional install variables which are not required for most installations, for information on any of the additional options please refer the User and Reference Guide.
On completion of the utility installation type C: this command will take you to the install directory for the 494 controller, the directory created during installation is.
C:\494UP
The utility directory has three batch file .
For the 494E at the prompt type 494eup
For the 494T at the prompt type 494tup
And for the 494A type 494aup
Please check your product model for correct batch file.
To identify the controller model, you will have to look at the physical hardware.
For the 494E controller the installed feature cards can be as follows.
40 48 45 or 40 41, the feature cards can be any combination of cards.
The Sync card of 40 = 494E (This is the card which identifies the controller type.)
The Sync card of 64 = 494T
And the Sync card of 72 = 494A
The feature cards are all the same for all three models.
41,44,48 These are twinax cards.
42 Ascii card
43 Token Ring lan Card 4/10 Mpbs
45 Ethernet 10 Mbps Lan Card
Note:
Only the 494e supports Tcp/ip.
Getting Started.
From the dos prompt ,the directory is c:\494up
type ,494eup to start the program
Use the arrow keys to select an option, Configuration then press Enter.
Network Link Establishment Configuration <= select this option. Bridge Filter Configuration |
PC2 494E - Configuration Use the arrow keys to move the cursor, then press Enter. _AS/400 Connection |
Because the configuration is a TCP/IP ,the controller has to be in Enhanced mode.
F9 will select Enhanced Mode , from Figure above
PC2E-A 494E - Configuration - Hardware Fill in the fields, then press F6. Press Enter to verify the data. Slot 0 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [00] Multisession |
For the configuration hardware, check the back of the 494E controller and record the hardware configuration, going from the left.
Using the Fig above, add the feature card ID numbers to match the slot slection.
When the hardware configuration matches the 494E controller configuration F6 to return.
The cursor will position its self to Slot 2 Twinax press the enter key to start configuration.
PC2E-B 494E - Configuration - Slot Selection Use the arrow keys to select an option, then press Enter. Slot 0 Multisession Save Configuration |
PC2E-C 494E - Configuration Use the arrow keys to move the cursor, then press Enter. _AS/400 Connection |
The configuration starts with the AS/400 connection
Use the arrow key and move down to
_TCP/IP press Enter
Next select
_Ethernet
Fill in the IP information as see below.

The 494E ip address has to be configured on the same network as the remote router, the router ip address acts as the controller gateway.
Next select Network Information

The default network name is the same value as the as/400 network , to find the network name on the AS/400 type at the command line DSPNETA locate the default network name, also take note of the Local location this will be required, for field H1 1 As/400 LU Name
Note: most networks network name defaults to APPN.

F6 to return then F6 back to Slot Selection.
In the 3rd figure the configuration contained a twinax card type 41 in slot 4, if the hardware you are configuring doesn't have have a second card save the configuration and end.
if there is a Twinax card in slot 4, down arrow to card slot and press enter.
Configure slot 4
As/400 connection assign an IP address to the twinax card plus the as/400. location H1
Assign a new IP address and add the as/400 IP address
config the network information.
From the network information the command F9 will copy the configuration from the information in slot 2.
Now change the 494E LU/CP names, all other information remains the same.
494E LU Name . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [C494E02]
494E CP Name . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [C494E02]

Use the arrow keys to select an option, then press Enter.
Save Configuration
PC2-5 494E - Configuration - Save Configuration
To save the configuration data press Enter.
Save Configuration File
Configuration File Name:
[C:\494UP\494CONF.DAT ]
Usage of this Configuration File:
_Normal Configuration
Now the configuration has been saved on the computer.
Save a copy of the configuration file to diskette, this can be on a blank diskette or the controller setup diskette.
To do this change the drive letter and delete the directory, see below.
Configuration File Name:
[A:\494CONF.DAT
Usage of this Configuration File:
_Normal Configuration
The configuration is now ready for transfer to the controller
Please follow instructions on how to save a normal configuration to a 494.
